I Northern - High Desert recap Oct. 3, 2012
McQueen suffered a letdown when it was bounced from the state Top 25 this week after a 31-24 loss to Reed. The Lancers had been ranked 25th, but fell to 29 following the defeat.
Reno extended the longest winning streak in I Northern - High Desert this week by beating North Valleys, 40-12. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Huskies.
Rafael Figueroa was the best wideout in the league this week as Hug fell to Spanish Springs. Figueroa racked up four receptions for 103 yards. Kenndel Goins helped Hug's passing attack out by catching three balls for 28 yards.
Ty Shepard was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 132 yards as the Raiders fell to the Cougars. Mark Nowaczewski also contributed to the rushing game with 47 yards on the ground.
Hunter Fralick put up the best numbers through the air as Spanish Springs beat Hug. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 185 yards and one touchdown. Fralick's favorite target this week was Vance Lively, who caught four passes for 101 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Nowaczewski and Shepard Reed has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Nowaczewski leads the league in passing with 1676 yards, while Shepard has rushed for 728 yards this season. The Panthers' JESSE KRUEGER leads the league in receiving yards with 820 on 37 catches.
The marquee game in I Northern - High Desert this week will be the clash between the Cougars and Reno. Spanish Springs enters the game ranked ninth in the state, while the Huskies ranks 19th.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Cougars take on Reno. Spanish Springs has allowed 111 points this season, while the Huskies have given up 126. The Cougars allowed 14 points last week as they bested the Hawks.
Spanish Springs took down Hug 55-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Fralick ran for 15 yards in the win.
