The Leake Academy Rebels's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Pillow Academy Mustangs at 5:15 p.m. on February 6th. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Leake Academy put the finishing touches on their 21st blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Lamar 66-45. Given Leake Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 11th, while the Raiders are ranked 76th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sarah Prince and Katye Jones were among the main playmakers for Leake Academy as the former scored 12 points along with two steals and the latter scored 15 points along with two steals. Prince continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Anna Morgan Young was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Pillow Academy came tearing into Wednesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 15.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Heritage Academy with points to spare, taking the game 61-47. 61 seems to be a good number for Pillow Academy as the squad scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.
Leake Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 27-5 record this season. As for Pillow Academy, their win bumped their record up to 21-2.
Leake Academy came up short against the Mustangs in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, falling 54-50. Can Leake Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
