The Hoggard Vikings will be home for the holidays to greet the Holly Springs Golden Hawks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Hoggard has eight straight victories, Holly Springs has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Hoggard has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 25 points or more this season. Everything went their way against West Brunswick on Friday as Hoggard made off with a 53-28 win. Given Hoggard's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while West Brunswick is ranked 241st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hoggard relied on the efforts of Sarah Elgart, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Tristan Shivers, who scored 21 points along with seven steals. The contest was Shivers' eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaronyanda Graham, who scored six points.
Meanwhile, Holly Springs suffered a rough 62-42 defeat at the hands of Green Hope on Friday.
Hoggard pushed their record up to 8-0 with that victory, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the matches in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.45 points. As for Holly Springs, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season.
