The Bogan Bengals are taking a road trip to challenge the St. Rita Mustangs at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. Bogan has given up an average of 8.9 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Tuesday, Bogan came up short against King and fell 15-11. The Bengals have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Rita). They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over Curie on Thursday. The Mustangs not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since May 8, 2024 (when they won 25-1).
Sullivan Kazee made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because St. Rita is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 4-9 otherwise. Kazee was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one run. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Nick Cegielski looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Gavin Wilczewski, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Angel Castro was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
St. Rita was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
St. Rita pushed their record up to 7-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Bogan, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
