Fleming County fell victim to East Carter and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They came up short against the Raiders, falling 10-0. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Panthers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Fleming County saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Courtney Doyle, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Rowan County got the win against Wolfe County on Wednesday by a conclusive 8-2. The Vikings might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by six runs or more this season.
Kelsey Pennington spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Rowan County got a massive performance out of Lauryn Eastham, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most RBI Eastham has posted since April 2nd. Kelbie Ford was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs, and one RBI.
Rowan County hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in 14 consecutive games.
Rowan County has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Fleming County, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-13.
