Maize has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. The Maize Eagles and the Andover Central Jaguars will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Andover Central took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Maize, who comes in off a win.
Last Saturday, in a tight contest that could have gone either way, Maize made off with a 45-44 victory over East. The win was just what Maize needed coming off of a 59-37 loss in their prior contest.
Andover Central suffered their closest loss yet this season on Friday. They fell just short of Chanute by a score of 49-46. While losing is never fun, Andover Central can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Chanute is ranked 32nd).
Maize has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Andover Central, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-5.
Maize came up short against Andover Central in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 48-38. Can Maize avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
