Even though the Tulia Hornets scored an imposing 58 points on Friday, the Alpine Bucks still came out on top. Alpine enjoyed a cozy 72-58 win over Tulia. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Alpine also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2016.
Despite the loss, Tulia saw an underclassman step up: Logan Becerra scored 23 points along with five rebounds. Becerra scored a full 39.7% of Tulia's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaiden Jalomo, who scored nine points along with 11 assists and four steals.
Alpine has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Tulia, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season.
Alpine won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Stanton at 1:30 p.m. on December 30th. Stanton will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1378th, while Alpine is ranked 556th). Tulia won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Saint Mary's Hall at 10:30 a.m. on December 30th. Saint Mary's Hall has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 485 points over their last seven matchups.
