After a string of six wins dating back to last season, the Ninilchik Wolverines's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They took a 65-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of Seward. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Ninilchik saw an underclassman step up: Kade McCorison dropped a double-double on 33 points and 13 rebounds. Rowan Mahoney was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with seven steals.
Ninilchik's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1. As for Seward, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-0.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ninilchik will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cook Inlet Academy at 7:00 p.m. on December 28th. Seward will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Nikiski at 7:30 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
