Baker has gone a perfect 3-0 against Ponce De Leon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Gators will venture away from home to challenge the Pirates at 5:00 p.m. Baker is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
On Thursday, Baker wound up with the same score they had in their last game (7-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The contest marked their lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Justice Baldwin was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Ponce De Leon). They blew past Poplar Springs 10-0 on Thursday. The Pirates not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1, 2025 (when they won 13-2).
G Motley made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on L Yates, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was T Rushing, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Ponce De Leon's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Baker, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-5 record this season.
Ponce De Leon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Baker hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .341. It's a different story for Ponce De Leon, though, as they've only averaged .249. Will they be able to contain Baker's hitters?
Everything went Baker's way against Ponce De Leon when the teams last played last Thursday, as Baker made off with an 18-8 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gators since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
