The Clay City Eels posted their biggest victory since November 10, 2023 on Thursday. They blew past Dugger Union 50-29. Given Clay City's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 337th, while Dugger Union is ranked 696th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Dugger Union lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Brae Simpson, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordyn Smith, who scored 13 points along with five steals.
The victory was the third in a row for Clay City, bringing their record for this year to 9-12. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Dugger Union, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-16.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay City on the road again on Tuesday and play against Northview at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Dugger Union, they will take on Martinsville at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Martinsville is on an eight-game streak of home losses, Dugger Union a four-game streak of away losses, but someone's luck is about to change.
