Avon Grove and Downingtown West are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Red Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Whippets at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Avon Grove is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Avon Grove came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against East, falling 10-4. The Red Devils' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Ed Kaufman and Logan Nelson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Kaufman went 3-for-4 with one triple, while Nelson went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Nelson has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ken Askin, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Downingtown West fell victim to Coatesville and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Red Raiders by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that the Whippets have lost by just one run.
Alex Breitfeller was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April.
This is the second loss in a row for Downingtown West and nudges their season record down to 7-13. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Avon Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-7.
Avon Grove's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Red Devils have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Downingtown West, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Avon Grove continue to outrun the ball?
Avon Grove was able to grind out a solid victory over Downingtown West in their previous matchup back in April, winning 11-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
