Sonny Ward was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Purcell Marian is undefeated when he allows at most two earned runs, but 0-9 otherwise. Ward was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ronan Ribar, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Eugene Ingram also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask New Richmond). Everything went their way against Wilmington on Wednesday as they made off with a 13-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Hurricane: they've now won three in a row.
Hunter Ashley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Trey Davis was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
New Richmond kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Purcell Marian's victory bumped their record up to 3-9. As for New Richmond, their win bumped their record up to 7-9.
