Brentwood and Summit are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Bruins will challenge the Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Brentwood's pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so Summit's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Brentwood's win against Ravenwood wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bruins' pitcher stepped up to hand the Raptors a 2-0 shutout on Wednesday.
Brentwood's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sloan Day, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Brentwood hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Summit was able to grind out a solid win over Columbia Central on Monday, taking the game 9-5. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.
Addison Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits.
On the hitting side, Summit got a big performance out of Lakyn Canada, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Audrey Cathey, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Brentwood has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Summit, their win bumped their record up to 10-8.
Summit's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Brentwood has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 12.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Summit, though, as they've been averaging only 3.2 strikeouts. Will Brentwood keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
Brentwood skirted past Summit 5-4 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bruins since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
