Baseball Recap: Wolcott RVT Sets Scoring Season-High Against Bassick

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Wolcott RVT). They never let the Bassick Lions get on the board and left with a 24-0 win on Wednesday. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Daniel Mazzetti was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with four runs and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Devon Schmitt looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April.

Back at the plate, Wolcott RVT got a massive performance out of Andrew Soria, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Soria a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Leonard, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs.

Wolcott RVT was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .472. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Wolcott RVT's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Bassick, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-11.

Looking ahead, Wolcott RVT will head out to face off against Bullard-Havens at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bassick, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kennedy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
