The Athens Wildcats lost against the Mansfield Tigers back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Athens might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 65-46 to Mansfield, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Athens has not had much luck with Mansfield recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Defeat or not, Athens got some senior leadership from Connor Mosher and Korey Miller. Mosher almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds, while Miller. scored 11 points along with four steals. Miller hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Jase Babcock, who scored five points.
Leading Mansfield to victory were Cooper Shaw and Karson Dominick. Shaw dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds, while Dominick scored 29 points along with six rebounds. Dominick is crushing the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Alex Davis was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Athens has not been sharp recently as the team has lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-9 record this season. As for Mansfield, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-6.
Athens will be playing at home against Northeast Bradford at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Athens focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Thursday. As for Mansfield, they will head out on the road to challenge Cowanesque Valley at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
