Pittsfield is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Portsmouth Christian Academy is on a three-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Panthers will host the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Pittsfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Pittsfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Hampshire's top teams: Epping, who was ranked sixth at the time (Pittsfield was ranked fourth). The Panthers skirted past the Blue Devils 3-1. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Alex Penney was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 18 batters over nine innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one double.
Penney wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addison Babcock, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run. Alivia Lavigne also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Portsmouth Christian Academy came out on top against Nute last Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive 12-run fifth inning. The Eagles put the hurt on the Rams with a sharp 17-5 victory.
Like Pittsfield, Portsmouth Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Lexi Jordan. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and not a single walk). Jordan was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Lexi Anderson and Isabella Stevens did most of the damage at the plate: Anderson got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI, while Stevens went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Emma Anderson, who got on base in two of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Pittsfield's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Portsmouth Christian Academy, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Portsmouth Christian Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pittsfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .393. It's a different story for Portsmouth Christian Academy, though, as they've only averaged .176. Will they be able to contain Pittsfield's hitters?
Pittsfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Portsmouth Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
