The Cortez Colts had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They snuck past Lee Williams with a 71-65 victory. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Devan Fowler was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points. That makes it seven consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Cortez's points. Another player making a difference was Tylin Hunter, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and four steals.
Cortez has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. As for Lee Williams, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-12.
Cortez does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lee Williams will head out on the road to challenge the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Arizona (Flagstaff is ranked 127th, while the Volunteers are ranked 152nd).
