The Chowchilla Tribe's five-game losing streak came to an end on Friday. They strolled past Yosemite with points to spare, taking the game 63-48. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Chowchilla also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
Chowchilla's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryan Deatherage led the charge by scoring 13 points along with five steals. Another player making a difference was Zayne Smith, who scored ten points along with six assists and two steals.
Defeat or not, Yosemite got some senior leadership from Dayton Lee and Scott Phillips. Lee scored 19 points, while Phillips. scored 11 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lee has scored all season.
Chowchilla pushed their record up to 11-8 with that win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.2 points per game. As for Yosemite, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Chowchilla will take on Sierra at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Yosemite, they will be playing at home against Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Liberty focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
