The Elwood Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight defeat. They had to suffer through a rough 61-19 loss at the hands of Frankton. While losing is never fun, Elwood can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 376th, while the Eagles are ranked 127th).
Leading Frankton to victory were Emma Sperry and Amaya Collins. Sperry scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Collins scored 30 points along with five steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Collins has scored at least a third of Frankton's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lamarrie'a Turner, who scored six points.
Elwood has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 13 of their last 14 matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season. As for Frankton, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-7.
Elwood's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th. Hopefully Eastbrook focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday. As for Frankton, they will face off against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Centerville is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
