Baseball Recap: Apollo Victorious

Apollo proved they can win big last Monday (they won by ten) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Dobson Mustangs 11-10. 11 seems to be a good number for the Hawks as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Rey Garcia made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing Two bases. while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Diego Ramos and Carlos Parra did most of the damage at the plate: Ramos scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while Parra scored a run and stole Three bases. while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Ramos also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Apollo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .500 or higher in three consecutive games.

Apollo's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Dobson, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apollo will venture away from home to square off against Boulder Creek at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Apollo knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Boulder Creek likes a good challenge. As for Dobson, they will challenge West Point at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
