The Oxford Chargers will face off against the Washington Generals at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Oxford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Oxford is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Corinth just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Monday. They lost 11-2 to the Warriors.
Ford Wade was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, James Blackwood was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Meanwhile, Washington got themselves on the board against Riverside on Monday, but Riverside never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Bulldogs with a sharp 18-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Generals, who have now won 19 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Oxford, Washington also got a great game from a two-way player: Jones Roberson. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, Roberson posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Doty Scott was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Charley Dunn, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.
Washington has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Oxford, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-11.
