The biggest upset of the week belonged to Woodville, who took down 594th ranked Woodville, 21-19.
Warren moved up to 869 from 924 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A-1 Region III District 10. The Warriors climbed the ranks as a result of beating the Eagles 21-19.
Newton's dynamic duo of RONEY ELAM and KEYAUN SEASTRUNK proved tough for Hardin to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. ELAM threw for 30 yards and one touchdown and SEASTRUNK had 46 yards receiving. ELAM helped Newton's passing attack out by catching one ball for 39 yards.
Justin Artis was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 21 carries, he ran for 151 yards as Anahuac bested the Hornets. Teammate Josh Cooper added to the ground attack by rushing for 81 yards.
Newton's D.J. DEAN and KEVIN SHORTER have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. DEAN has thrown for 751 yards this season, while SHORTER, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has nine catches for 201 yards. Artis from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 1467 yards.
A big matchup in 2A-1 Region III District 10 this week will be when the Eagles take on Woodville. At the moment, Newton is in first, while Steven Fentress' team is in fifth.
The Eagles extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Hardin, 63-7. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
