Notre Dame-Green Pond and Wilson Area are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Crusaders will head out to square off against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Notre Dame-Green Pond is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.
Notre Dame-Green Pond took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against North Schuylkill, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Crusaders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-8 win over the Spartans on Saturday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
The team relied heavily on Michael Wachter, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Connor Albert, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Notre Dame-Green Pond kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matchups.
Wilson Area came out on top against Notre Dame on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fifth inning. The Warriors put the hurt on the Spartans with a sharp 12-2 victory. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won five in a row.
Liam Coyle made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Wilson Area is undefeated when Coyle posts three or more RBI, but 5-10 otherwise.
In other batting news, Braden Benevides was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. He has become a key player for Wilson Area: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-10 otherwise. Dylan Penyak was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
Notre Dame-Green Pond has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Wilson Area, their record now sits at 9-10.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Notre Dame-Green Pond has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Wilson Area struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Notre Dame-Green Pond took their win against Wilson Area in their previous matchup back in April by a conclusive 10-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Crusaders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
