The Highland Hawks's game last Thursday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They strolled past Desert Ridge with points to spare, taking the game 70-55. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Madilyn Gewirtz was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 17 rebounds. Emilee Searle was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Several Jaguars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Saige Miller, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Miller has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Hannah Mask, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Highland's victory bumped their record up to 11-9. As for Desert Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 12-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland will square off against Gilbert at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Gilbert has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 413 points over their last six matches. As for Desert Ridge, they will head out on the road to square off against Corona del Sol at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Corona del Sol is out to stop a four-game streak of losses at home.
