The Challenger Firebirds's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 44-11 defeat at the hands of Pinnacle Classical Academy. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Challenger in their matchups with Pinnacle Classical Academy: they've now lost nine in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pinnacle Classical Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Akeelah Davis, who scored eight points along with 19 rebounds and six assists. Davis is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lilly Price, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Challenger's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 18.7 points per game. As for Pinnacle Classical Academy, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.
Challenger does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Pinnacle Classical Academy will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Lake Lure Classical Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 12th. Lake Lure Classical Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 23 points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
