The Puyallup Vikings will square off against the Sumner Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their games after big wins in their previous games.
Puyallup is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Washington's top teams: Emerald Ridge, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Puyallup was ranked eighth). The Vikings claimed a resounding 54-0 victory over the Jaguars. The Vikings' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
It was another big night for Luke Parker, who threw for 262 yards and five touchdowns while completing 81% of his passes, and also rushed for 56 yards and one TD. Lawson Looker was Parker's top target, picking up 101 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Puyallup's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Kitiona Tupua and Treyshon Lovelace, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sumner). They blew past South Kitsap 63-3 on Friday. The Spartans have beaten the Wolves the last nine times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wolves has come to flipping the script.
Puyallup better keep an eye on Lance McGee. He was instrumental in Sumner's win, rushing for 119 yards and three TDs on only five carries. McGee is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 119 every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Emilio Collie, who rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on only 11 carries.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sumner was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 300 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Kitsap only rushed for 30.
Puyallup's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Sumner, the win got them back to even at 2-2.
Saturday's contest might be decided on the ground. Puyallup has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 201 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Sumner struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 201.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Puyallup couldn't quite finish off Sumner when the teams last played back in October of 2024 and fell 17-14. Will the Vikings have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more football content.
