The New Fairfield Rebels were the 28-14 winner over the Brookfield Bobcats when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. New Fairfield ended up on the wrong side of a tough 28-6 walloping at the hands of Brookfield on Friday. New Fairfield just can't catch a break and has now endured three defeats in a row.
Michael Walters was a one-man wrecking crew for Brookfield as he rushed for 188 yards and a touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry, and also picked up 35 receiving yards. Walters was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 64 yards.
New Fairfield's defeat was their 11th straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 6-0 Notre Dame Catholic and 11-2 Joel Barlow (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 72.6% over those games). As for Brookfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Fairfield will square off against Weston at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Brookfield, they will head out on the road to face off against Bunnell at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
