The Corona del Mar Sea Kings and the La Serna Lancers squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Corona del Mar Sea Kings had to settle for second. They were the victim of a rough 49-29 defeat at the hands of the Lancers. Corona del Mar's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
When it comes to explaining why Corona del Mar lost, one person who can't be blamed is Russell Weir. Despite the final result, he picked up 156 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
It was another big night for Owen Long, who rushed for 160 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.9 yards per carry for La Serna. Long hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for four straight games. Another player making a difference was CJ Ceron, who rushed for 91 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
La Serna's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Eli Perez and his two sacks.
Corona del Mar's loss dropped their record down to 8-6. As for La Serna, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.
Corona del Mar does not have any more games scheduled as of now. La Serna will be playing in front of their home fans against Orange Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Orange Vista is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
