Softball Recap: Athens Gets the Win

Athens took a 11-run loss the last time they faced off against Adams, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Hawks sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over the Highlanders on Saturday. For the Red Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 11-0 victory the Highlanders walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2022.

Angie Leonard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and four unearned) runs on seven hits.

On the hitting side, Addison Pokley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Leah Dahlerup, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Pokley wasn't the only one making solid contact: Athens kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

Athens' win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Adams, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Coming up, Athens will host Oxford at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Adams, they will take on Utica at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
