6A Southwest recap Oct. 30, 2012
Thurston's Aaron Downes rumbled for the longest rushing play in 6A Southwest this season in his game against South Eugene last week. Downes' team beat the Axemen as he sprinted for 72 yards on the play and finished with 216 in all.
Sheldon extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Grants Pass, 62-7. The victory was the ninth in a row for the Irish.
Thurston's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Corey Weick threw for 171 yards and Colton Fish had 59 yards receiving. Jack Miller helped Thurston's passing attack out by catching four balls for 54 yards.
Thanks to the talents of Weick and Downes Justin Starck's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Weick leads the league in passing with 1844 yards, while Downes has rushed for 651 yards this season. Sheldon's Connor Strahm leads the league in receiving yards with 642 on 50 catches.
Lane Johnson's team took down the Cavemen 62-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
