The Galena Grizzlies's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 63-25 loss at the hands of Bishop Manogue. While losing is never fun, Galena can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Bishop Manogue is ranked third).
Ava Wulforst and Mia Turner certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Wulforst scored eight points along with ten rebounds and four steals, while Turner scored eight points along with 11 rebounds and three blocks. Turner has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times she's played.
Galena struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Bishop Manogue's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Fa'anaetaua Puloka led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Puloka has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Violet Gordon, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Galena's loss dropped their record down to 4-16. As for Bishop Manogue, the victory was the 14th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Galena will take on Spanish Springs at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Bishop Manogue, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Damonte Ranch at 5:15 p.m. Hopefully Damonte Ranch focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 last Tuesday.
