For the second straight game, Lake City will face off against Post Falls. The Timberwolves will be playing at home against the Trojans at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Lake City has seven straight wins, Post Falls has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Lake City made easy work of Post Falls and carried off a 20-9 victory. Considering the Timberwolves have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Madeline Peterson was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Lake City got a massive performance out of KaeLee Kolden, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. That's the most RBI Kolden has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Layla Gugino, who scored four runs and stole two bases while going 4-for-5.
Lake City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in ten consecutive matches.
Lake City pushed their record up to 11-4-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Post Falls, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
Post Falls' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake City has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. It's a different story for Post Falls, though, as they've been averaging 10.4 hits. Given Lake City's sizable advantage in that area, the Trojans will need to find a way to close that gap.
