San Elizario is 9-1 against Loretto since November of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The San Elizario Eagles will be playing at home against the Loretto Angels at 7:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, San Elizario was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 33-29 to Clint.
Despite the defeat, San Elizario got a solid performance out of Maya Contreras, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 15 rebounds. That was a full 44.8% of San Elizario's points, marking the eighth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Even though they lost, San Elizario smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clint only pulled down nine offensive rebounds.
Meanwhile, Loretto's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They were beaten by Riverside 74-23. Loretto was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-11.
San Elizario has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-15 record this season. As for Loretto, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-15.
San Elizario was able to grind out a solid win over Loretto in their previous matchup back in November of 2023, winning 26-19. Will San Elizario repeat their success, or does Loretto have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
