It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the St. Bernard's Crusaders can now relate to. They suffered a rough 42-20 loss at the hands of the Matadors on Saturday. St. Bernard's loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
St. Bernard's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wyatt Simoni, who rushed for 109 yards and a touchdown. Simoni is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aaiden Burris, who picked up 123 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Miramonte was led to victory by Andrew Bjornson and Carson Blair. Bjornson picked up 187 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Blair threw for 271 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt. Bjornson's longest reception was for an incredible 92 yards. Charlie Hwang and his 101 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Miramonte's win.
St. Bernard's loss dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Miramonte, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
St. Bernard's does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Miramonte will head out on the road to face off against Pleasant Valley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Pleasant Valley will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
