The Scholars Guild Academy Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight loss. They ended up on the wrong side of a rough 68-42 walloping at the hands of Fideles Christian. Scholars Guild Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 43-20.
Scholars Guild Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Elijah McIlvain, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. Another player making a difference was Jacob McIlvain, who scored 12 points along with three steals.
Scholars Guild Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fideles Christian pulled down 20 offensive rebounds.
It was another big night for Gabe Reynolds, who scored 19 points along with five assists and three steals for Fideles Christian. Reynolds has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last seven times he's played. Hudson Blackstock was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with eight rebounds and six steals.
Scholars Guild Academy bumped their record down to 6-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Fideles Christian, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Scholars Guild Academy will take on Young Americans Christian at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Fideles Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Lanier Christian Academy at 8:00 p.m. on January 12th.
