Even though the Stratford Academy Eagles have not done well against the First Presbyterian Day Vikings recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Stratford Academy came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 57-50. Given Stratford Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 185th, while the Vikings are ranked 484th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Stratford Academy found their leader in underclassman Bill Noblitt, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Noblitt has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Grant Matson, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Breck Griffin, who scored 16 points along with two steals. Griffin continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last five games he's played. Heisman Alvarez was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Stratford Academy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. As for First Presbyterian Day, their defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-13.
Stratford Academy will square off against the Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for First Presbyterian Day, they will be playing at home against the Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
