Basketball Recap: Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot Extends Winning Streak to Five

While Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-12), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They had just enough and edged the Westover Christian Academy Bulldogs out 62-59. The win was nothing new for the Knights as they're now sitting on five straight.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was John Loftin, who went 7 of 15 on his way to 24 points in addition to six boards and five assists. With that strong performance, Loftin is now averaging an impressive 16 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Hamner, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 19 points and five rebounds.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Caleb Hill, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 17 points and eight rebounds. The match was Hill's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Malachi Waller, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 13 points in addition to five boards and three blocks.

Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Westover Christian Academy, they moved to 9-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Blessed Sacrament-Huguenot will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on King & Queen Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. Westover Christian Academy also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against Faith Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Westover Christian Academy is facing Faith Christian Academy at the right time seeing as Faith Christian Academy is stuck on a seven-game losing streak.
