The Giddings Buffaloes fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Gonzales Apaches on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 44-38 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Apaches. Giddings gained 80 more yards on the day, but it was Gonzales that made the best of use of them.
When it comes to explaining why Giddings lost, one person who can't be blamed is Bryson Mcdaniel. Despite the final result, he rushed for 284 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.8 yards per carry. Mcdaniel really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run.
Gonzales can attribute much of their success to Rocky Gallegos, who rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. Another player making a difference was Cole Duty, who rushed for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Gonzales, racking up 12 points in total. All those points came courtesy of Brandon Duenez: he added nine points with three field goals, and another two kicking extra points.
Giddings' loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-7. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 33.3 points per game. As for Gonzales, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-3.
