The Liberty Lightning managed to keep up with the Iowa City West Trojans until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Liberty's  rough  74-53 defeat to Iowa City West  might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Liberty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage  in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings  (they are ranked 168th, while Iowa City West is ranked 11th).
 Despite the  loss, Liberty saw an underclassman step up:  Jerimiah Washpun  scored 14 points along with five  rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points  Washpun has scored all season.  Cooper  Webb was another key contributor,  scoring ten points.
 This is  the second loss in a row for Liberty and  nudges their season record down to 1-2. As for Iowa City West, the  victory was  the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
 Liberty will head out on the road to face off against Western Dubuque at 7:30  p.m.  on Tuesday. As for Iowa City West, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Wahlert at 7:30  p.m.  on Tuesday.
