After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mountain Ridge, the Northern Huskies were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They enjoyed a cozy 43-25 win over Meyersdale. Given Northern's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 112th in Maryland, while Meyersdale is ranked 523rd in Pennsylvania), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Northern got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kaylee Bowser out in front who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Lydia Nelson was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Meyersdale lost, one person who can't be blamed is Laurel Daniels. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with two steals.
Northern has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Meyersdale, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Northern will take on Southern at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Meyersdale, they the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Windber at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th. Hopefully Windber focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 30 last Thursday.
