The West Wilkes Blackhawks's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a serious blow against North Surry, falling 81-40. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for West Wilkes in their matchups with North Surry: they've now lost six in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead North Surry to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cade Atkins, who scored 16 points along with six assists and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that Atkins scored 15 or more points. Kam Mcknight was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six steals and five rebounds.
West Wilkes bumped their record down to 3-11 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. That rough patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.8 points per game. As for North Surry, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.
West Wilkes will head out on the road to square off against East Surry at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. As for North Surry, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Surry Central at 7:30 p.m. Surry Central is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
