The Delhi Charter Gators will take on the Jena Giants at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Delhi Charter's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Jena's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Delhi Charter is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 21 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Mangham on Friday. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dragons. The Gators haven't had much luck with the Dragons recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Delhi Charter saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Peyton Fuller, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Jena came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Tigers get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. The Giants might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Cayden Mursch was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Carson Willis, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
Jena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They are 15-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Jena's victory was their 12th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Delhi Charter, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-10.
Monday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Delhi Charter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Jena struggles in that department as they've averaged .344. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Delhi Charter might still be hurting after the 12-4 loss they got from Jena in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
