The Christ the King Crusaders will head out on the road to face off against the Corvian Community Cardinals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Christ the King struggled with threes on Tuesday (the Bears had five more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Christ the King took a 80-70 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bears. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (67), Christ the King still had to take the loss.
Parker Ryan put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 29 points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Marco Tampoya, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds.
Meanwhile, Corvian Community entered their tilt with the Spartans with five consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with six. Corvian Community took down the Spartans 68-54 on Tuesday. Corvian Community pushed the score to 55-30 by the end of the third, a deficit the Spartans cut but never quite recovered from.
Corvian Community's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jack Hudson led the charge by scoring 15 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was AJ Jackson Jr., who scored seven points along with six assists and four steals.
Christ the King's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Corvian Community, their victory bumped their record up to 15-3.
Friday's game is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Christ the King have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 44.3% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Corvian Community struggles in that department as they've made 43.9% of their threes this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Christ the King opened the new year with a less-than-successful 61-49 loss to the Cardinals. Can Christ the King avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
