Softball Recap: Airport Has No Trouble Against Milan

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Allen Park, Airport was happy to have turned things around on Monday. Everything went their way against the Milan Big Reds as they made off with a 9-2 victory. The Jets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

Brooklyn Martin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Olivia Tilley, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Brenna Baker was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Airport is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for Milan, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-10.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Airport will host Riverview at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jets will need to watch out since the Pirates have now posted at least ten runs in their last three contests. As for Milan, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Salem at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
