Franklin County hasn't had much luck against Frederick Douglass recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Flyers will square off against the Broncos at 6:00 p.m. Franklin County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.9 runs per game this season.
On Wednesday, Franklin County got the win against Henry Clay by a conclusive 11-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Flyers.
Carlie Olds was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was K McGowan, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and four RBI.
Franklin County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .409. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Frederick Douglass faced Madison Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Broncos narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Indians 7-5.
Haley McGuire made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Armani Happy, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Kavery Myrick was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Franklin County pushed their record up to 6-3 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Frederick Douglass, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4-1 record this season.
Thursday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Franklin County hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. However, it's not like Frederick Douglass struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
