If the Strom Thurmond Rebels were feeling good off their 69-22 takedown of the Lowcountry Leadership NaviGators on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Strom Thurmond fell just short of Greenbrier by a score of 58-56. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Strom Thurmond's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Roosevelt Walker, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. The matchup was Walker's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Landen Jones was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Jackson Jennings was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 15 points and 13 rebounds for Greenbrier. Jennings set a new season high mark in steals with six. Another player making a difference was Martez Ford, who scored ten points along with eight assists and five rebounds.
Strom Thurmond's loss dropped their record down to 11-5. As for Greenbrier, the victory got them back to even at 7-7.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Strom Thurmond's road trip will continue as they head out to face Midland Valley at 7:30 p.m. on January 5th. Midland Valley has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 21. As for Greenbrier, they will head out on the road to face off against Jenkins at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
