River Mill hasn't had much luck against Chatham Charter recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Jaguars will square off against the Knights at 6:00 p.m. River Mill will be strutting in after a win while Chatham Charter will be coming in after a defeat.
River Mill will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Central Carolina Academy on Thursday. The Jaguars never let the Eagles get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Jaguars, who have now won six games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Gavin Loy made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 14 over five innings pitched. Those 14 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-2. He has become a key player for River Mill: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

River Mill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .630. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Chatham Charter lost 11-3 to Cedar Ridge on Tuesday.
Like River Mill, Chatham Charter also got a great game from a two-way player: Zach Cartrette. He tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Cartrette has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base.
Cartrette wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jace Young, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
River Mill's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-3. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Chatham Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. River Mill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. However, it's not like Chatham Charter struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
River Mill suffered a grim 21-1 defeat to Chatham Charter in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
