The Greendale Panthers will square off against the Waukesha South Blackshirts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Greendale has given up an average of 7.5 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Greendale is headed into Saturday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Friday. They came up short against New Berlin Eisenhower, falling 12-2. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Greendale saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Giselle Paszkiewicz, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Waukesha South came into Friday's game having lost ten straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They never let Living Word Lutheran get on the board and left with an 18-0 victory on Friday. The Blackshirts' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Deanna Sanchez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Sanchez was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and eight RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Waukesha South got a massive performance out of Chiara Browne, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Browne a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyson Staley, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
Waukesha South was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Living Word Lutheran only posted a batting average of .133.
Greendale's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Waukesha South, their win bumped their record up to 4-12.
Waukesha South's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Greendale has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Waukesha South, though, as they've been averaging 10.2 hits. Given Greendale's sizable advantage in that area, the Blackshirts will need to find a way to close that gap.
