Northside is a perfect 4-0 against Mather since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Mustangs will welcome the Rangers at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Northside took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against St. Patrick, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Mustangs won by a run and slipped past the Shamrocks 4-3. The game was the first time the Mustangs have beaten the Shamrocks on their field since April 6, 2017.
Will Moran looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits.
On the hitting side, Northside's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Leir Dierdorff, who went 1-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Dierdorff has launched this season.
Meanwhile, Mather had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Streaks. The result was nothing new for the Rangers, who have now won five contests by 16 runs or more so far this season.
Lucas Lambert made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Javier Barriors was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for Mather: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-4 otherwise. Jadier Castillo was another key player, going 3-for-5 with three runs and two doubles.
Mather was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Northside's win bumped their record up to 8-4. As for Mather, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Northside has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .502. However, it's not like Mather struggles in that department as they've averaged .513. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Northside's way against Mather in their previous meeting back in April of 2025, as Northside made off with a 14-2 win. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Rangers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
