Basketball Recap: Kern Valley Comes Up Short

Kern Valley lost against California City back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Kern Valley Broncs lost 88-64 to the California City Ravens. The Broncs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Kern Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Shiloh Galvan posted 24 points. Those 24 points gave Galvan a new career-high. Zane Carver was another key player, dropping a double-double on ten points and 15 boards.

Even though they lost, Kern Valley was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as California City only racked up nine assists.

California City's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Avery 'Skywalker' Spears, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 20 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Spears is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Cassius 'Hollywood' Brown, who went 8 for 14 en route to 20 points.

Kern Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 5-11. As for California City, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season.

Kern Valley has already played their next contest (against Bishop Union), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. California City didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 81-27 win against Boron on the 21st.
